Dr Sureka Goringe - Media Bio
National Director, UnitingWorld
Dr Sureka Goringe is the National Director of UnitingWorld, a DFAT accredited aid and development agency, delivering programs that reach around 200,000 people across Asia, Africa and the Pacific each year. Sureka leads a 31 strong team at UnitingWorld, supporting locally-led partner organisations to address poverty and inequality in sustainable ways.
Sureka also contributes to the wider social justice sector as a Vice President on the Board of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), as Chair of the Church Agencies Network Disaster Operations (CAN DO) and as a Director on the Board of Wesely Mission (Sydney).
A scientist by training, Sureka brings executive and board level leadership experience from fifteen years in the technology sector, including capital raising, research and development, and intellectual property commercialisation in venture funded start-ups and large public-sector organisations.
An Australian since the nineties, Sureka comes via Cambridge University in England, and a childhood in Botswana, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Sureka has Ph.D. in Materials Science and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Sureka is a passionate advocate for global justice, and loves weaving her global childhood, her faith, and her passion with the all the skills gained through professional life to work towards a world where lives are whole and hopeful, free from poverty and injustice.
